UPDATE - EMMAA is leading the change in Australia medieval combat. Kit Houston, EMMAA's head instructor is in the process of establishing a national team to travel internationally and fight in Europe. Battle of the Nations is the first international event of its kind and EMMAA hopes to present a full team in 2013. The first goal is to get people fit, armoured and working as team. The second goal is to establish a tournament circuit up the east coast of Australia and the third goal is to get to the event in 2012 and gather information. If, during this process, we have a team ready for 2012 we might as well enter and see how we go.

EMMAA's goal is to explore information and ideas on medieval physical culture. To us this includes fitness, wrestling, weapon's and unarmored/armoured combat. We have a strong belief in a single medieval martial art, that while taught differently by many masters, uses a series of techniques from the same pool developed centuries ago. Our difference to similar groups is a complete combat system and Martial Intent.

Beni Hassan Art
Wrestling - Beni Hassan Wall Art - 21st to 17th centuries BC

Martial Intent, meaning to train in a safe environment, yet as close to the real thing with unwavering focus and determination is our difference and the back bone of our activities. EMMAA using combat foundation concepts that assist in increasing the leave of Martial Intent in our current studies. We understand that just like our historical teachers, there are many ways to train so please feel free to use anything from this site, but always strive to add Martial Intent.

Small Icon EMMAA plans to ...

  • increasing the awareness of Medieval Martial Arts (WMA, HEMA and EMMA).
  • provide martial concepts and ideas to help incorporate martial intent into current studies.
  • provide historical guidance for new and current students.

Small Icon EMMAA plans to provide the above by...

  • practicing what we preach.
  • researching historical data and developing effective modern training practices.
  • engaging modern professionals from many fields to improve our understanding of martial intent.
  • promote academies, run workshops and provide relevant tools and equipment.

We hope that you enjoy this site and please feel free to contact us is needed. admin@emmaa.com.au
